Benefits and welfare make up around 40% of our workload at Ross & Cromarty CAB, with many people in the local area relying on us for support. Benefits are important to many different people of all ages and all walks of life, but we know that the system of claiming them can be very complex.

We offer free high-quality advice and can help you claim benefits you might not even know that you qualify for.

We are here to help you understand the benefits that you are entitled to, how to claim these and how to challenge any decisions or sanctions regarding your benefit claims.

Ways we can support you:

If you are looking for help work out your benefit entitlement, then we can carry out a benefit check for you. This consist of one of our advisers taking details particular to your situation and putting it into a benefit calculator, from there we can work out what you maybe entitled to.

If you are contacting us regarding a benefit check, the following documents may be useful to hand:

  • National Insurance number
  • Details and proof of income
  • Wage slips and current benefits details
  • Tenancy agreement/mortgage details
  • Details of people in the household

If you are looking for support with making an application for benefits, be it a single claim or multiple, then we are happy to help. With the support of one of our experienced advisers, we will help you through applications for any benefits you maybe entitled to. These can include:

We can support you through both stages of appeal, be it the Mandatory Reconsideration or Tribunal. All benefits have a deadline to appeal by, so contact us as soon as possible on the details below.

Here are some documents you will need to have available when you contact us regarding your benefits:

  • Dates of birth (for yourself and family)
  • Employment details (status, hours worked)
  • Details and proof of income for last tax year, often found on P60 form
  • Details and proof of income for this year so far (from pay slips)
  • Current benefits details and proof
  • Childcare cost details (details of childcare provider, childcare costs)
  • Investment income details (bank statements for all accounts showing current investment or interest payments)
  • Rental agreement or current mortgage repayment
  • Current council tax bill
